Particularly at a time when there is so much traumatic grief happening in the world, it can be hard to feel that there is space for our “smaller” personal grief, or even for the way we feel about what is happening in the world. We tell ourselves, “I should just be grateful for what I have.” And while it is good to connect to gratitude, it is also absolutely critical that we stay connected to our grief and keep it moving. Otherwise our hearts close and we lose our ability to love deeply and to care about what is happening.
